Mongers Market in Bridgeport Now Closed (June 2025)

Mongers market Closed (June 6)

UPDATE June 6, 2025: Mongers Market is officially closed and will not reopen.

Unfortunately, the business posted today on Instagram and Facebook that they will not be reopening after last week’s unexpected closing for repairs. This comes after they originally announced in early May that they would be open through the end of June, giving visitors eight more Sundays to enjoy the market. Last week, it appeared they would not be closing for good but needed to immediately close for repairs.

Both previous social media posts have been deleted, and the latest post has removed the ability for people to comment on both Instagram and Facebook.

The image reads: “All grit. All heart. This is goodbye.”

The caption reads: “It comes with a heavy heart, after doing everything we could to find a path forward, we’ve made the difficult decision not to reopen Mongers Market. This space was built with blood, sweat, and grit, fueled by heart, and shaped by the incredible community of Mongers and customers who gave it life. We’re proud of what we created together—and grateful beyond words for the love and energy you brought through our doors and loading docks. This isn’t the ending we hoped for, but it’s one we meet with gratitude and deep appreciation. Thank you for being part of something unforgettable. ❤️”

Mongers Market Temporary Closing for Repairs (May 29)

UPDATE June 1, 2025: In a confusing and potentially positive twist, Mongers Market published a follow-up post on Instagram [post deleted] and Facebook [post deleted] on May 29 that seemed to contradict its earlier closing announcement slated for June 29 without providing any further details.

The image reads: “Grit doesn’t quit. Closed for now. Stay tuned.”

The caption reads: “We have closed to make necessary repairs and building renovations, but don’t worry—the grit doesn’t quit. While the lights are out, us Mongers are still out there, hunting and curating across thousands of square miles. Maybe even sneaking in a little well-earned downtime. We’ll announce our reopening right here—until then, have a great summer and stay gritty!”

Not surprisingly, many commenters posed questions.

No clear statements have been provided by Mongers Market at this time, but the caption and comment responses from the account appear to indicate that it will be closed for the summer and then reopen for good:

  • “We are closed until further notice!”
  • “Sorry! Closed sooner for repairs! Many other great markets to pick from until we reopen!”
  • “…Changes in motion. We closed temporarily for necessary repairs. No new ownership. Stay tuned to our Instagram or Facebook page for information on our reopening.”

The below content was originally published on May 9, 2025 and the information has now changed. If more information becomes available, we will work to share that here.

Mongers Market in Bridgeport, CT announced that it will be closing its doors in eight weeks: June 29, 2025 will be the last day for Mongers Market to be open.

Mongers Market Closing Details (May 8)

In a heartfelt Instagram post on May 8 [post deleted], Mongers Market owner John Hiden shared the journey of buying this factory building space in 2012, his vision and dream for it, opening in 2018, the incredible community that was built, and many challenges along the way—calling this closure “the end of an era.”

Hiden does not specifically state the reasons for closing, but he mentions significant parking issues due to the market’s popularity, costly and frequent upkeep for the building, and his being 62 and ready to step back from the business.

He includes a note of hope that someone else with time, energy, and a dream might step up and open a market 5-7 days per week. The post already has hundreds of comments, many people sharing how much they have loved being part of the community or spending Sundays shopping there.
